Dear Colleague:

The University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) is the official bargaining agent for all professional employees at the University of Connecticut, it's regional campuses (Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington and Waterbury) and the UConn Law School.  We are affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut (AFTCT), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the AFL-CIO.

Our more than 1,600 members include a wide variety of professionals, including librarians, information technology professionals, nurses, counselors and administrative professionals.  Our members work in all areas of the University including the library, UITS, academic departments, student affairs and athletics.

We represent our members in contract negotiations, assist members with workplace issues and represent members in grievance and arbitration hearings.  The union also provides opportunities for professional development and lobbies for legislation favorable to our members and their families, including funding for the University of Connecticut.  UCPEA also provides opportunities for collegial interaction for our members at events like our annual Holiday Party and the Swing into Spring luncheon.

As a 30-year employee at UConn, I have found the working environment to be positive, the students outstanding, the professional staff dedicated and the institution one in which the entire state can and should be proud.  As UCPEA's president, I am equally proud of the work our union does on behalf of our members.  Our members are active in the union and positive contributors to the University community.

Our leadership structure consists of nine executive board members and approximately 60 union representatives, elected by the membership.  Four full-time employees work in our office at 18 Dog Lane.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Executive Director Peggy Beckett-Rinker, or the UCPEA office.

Sincerely,
